6-month well baby exam; 12/18/2000

This time Quinn loved to tear up that crinkly paper on the exam table!! Our affectionate thanks to Marcia (?) who drew the short end of the stick this time & had to give Quinn his shots & take a blood sample (heel poke).  Quinn's 6-month vaccination was DPT (Diptheria, Pertussis, Tetanus).  The blood sample was for a  hematocrit.   Quinn weighed in at 20 pounds, 3 ounces, and was 26.5 inches long.  That puts him in the 25th percentile for height and the 90th percentile for weight; Sherry (our wonderful FNP) promised us that he'll eventually become more like a rectangle and less like a square.  She OK'd Quinn to start eating baby foods; fruits & vegetables.  Developmentally he is doing all the things he should be.  These days he does any of the following:

  •  Rolls over
  • Babbles
  • Smiles, laughs, squeals, makes raspberries & blows bubbles
  • Reaches for objects with purpose
  • Likes to play peek-a-boo
  • Loves his exersaucer; can play for long periods of time by himself
  • "Migrates" - combination of rolling & "scooching"
  • If on the floor near his exersaucer, he may reach for toys on the exersaucer
  • Bearing weight on legs & feet if held upright
  • Eating rice cereal happily
  • Has 5 teeth, probably more coming (3 on top, 2 on bottom)
  • Sits up without help, although he can't get there from a fully prone position yet
